Top 7 Gold Coast Marathon Tips

As the Gold Coast Airport Marathon draws closer (2 - 3 July), participants in the world famous marathon are eagerly determined to get to the finish line in their quickest possible time. Moreover, runners also need to consider a few small factors that could make a huge difference on the performance.

We at Arc Resort have gathered a couple of simple tips that can help you get a good preparation before the race during your stay at our cheap accommodation Gold Coast.

  1. Take lots of water. Drinking at least 8 cups of water per day especially when training. On the race day, you can drink just enough amounts to keep you hydrated throughout the race.
  2. Check your running shoes. Make sure that your running shoes are in good condition. It is better to use your old comfy shoes instead of buying and wearing a new pair on the marathon day.  
  3. Go easy on rice or pastas. Carbo loading a day before the marathon will most probably get you an upset stomach. Runners at out accommodation in Broadbeach can still enjoy a few slices of bread or just a small serving of pasta but make sure that you don’t overeat on carbs.
  4. Rest well at least one day before the marathon. Rest is very important since you need to conserve your energy for tomorrows race. It is also advisable to take a hot bath to loosen up your leg muscles.
  5. Pacing yourself is the key. Start a little slower than your goal pace, and then adjust your pace depending on how you feel. If you’re having a hard time keeping your pace, it’s bet to pull back a bit. You should also slow down when running on rough terrain to avoid injury.
  6. Allow yourself to have walking breaks during the marathon. Brief walking breaks will will keep your muscles from tightening up in the later stages. Just make sure you don’t take too long and ruin your aspired finish time.
  7. Remember that it is important to cool down after the race. We often advise runners at our Broadbeach apartments that the best way to cool down is by doing a bit of short walk as it will help your body recover faster.
